Licensed U.S. operators only

Legal sportsbooks and casinos, with the terms in plain English.

ClearWager is a consumer guide. We explain how licensed American sportsbooks and online casinos work — who is allowed to use them, what “bonus” language actually means, and where to get help if gambling stops being entertainment.

You must be 21 or older and physically located in a state where that product is legal. Licensed operators use geolocation. If you are not in a legal state for that product, you cannot play on these sites. ClearWager does not list or link unlicensed or offshore casinos.
Advertising disclosure. ClearWager may earn a commission if you sign up through a future affiliate link on this site. We only intend to cover operators licensed in U.S. states. Commission does not change what you pay. Current “View official site” buttons go to the operator’s public consumer URL with no tracking parameters. See our advertising disclosure.

What this site is

Most comparison pages read like ads. ClearWager is written to be readable by an adult who wants the rules before the offer.

We start with New Jersey because it is one of the longest-running, most closely regulated online casino and sports-wagering markets in the United States. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement publishes the list of approved internet gaming sites. Any site not on that list is not approved to offer internet gaming in New Jersey.

We are not a casino. We do not accept bets, hold player funds, or operate games. Nothing here is a recommendation to gamble.

What we will not do

  • Invent welcome-bonus dollar amounts
  • Use “risk-free,” “guaranteed win,” or “guaranteed profit”
  • Link to unlicensed or offshore casinos
  • Target anyone under 21
  • Hide that we may be paid as an affiliate

Five New Jersey brands with sportsbook and online casino

Verified against the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement’s approved internet gaming sites list (consumer brands below appear on that official page or as the sportsbook counterpart of those brands). Sportsbook activity for these same brands is also reported in New Jersey’s monthly sports-wagering figures. Confirm current products on each official site. Reviewed August 21, 2026.

Other licensed New Jersey casino brands also appear on the DGE list, including BetRivers (nj.betrivers.com, under Golden Nugget). We are not ranking these five as “best.” They are widely used, dual-product brands a New Jersey adult can check first.

Where this is legal

There is no single national sportsbook or online casino. Each state writes its own law. An app that works in New Jersey may be unavailable — or a different product — one state over.

Online casino (iGaming). As of June 30, 2026, DraftKings’ SEC filing listed eight U.S. jurisdictions with statutes legalizing iGaming: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Michigan, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and West Virginia. That is a statute list, not a promise that every brand is live in every one of those states. Confirm the operator and your location.

Online sports betting is legal in a larger set of states. As of mid-2026, that group included New Jersey and, among others, Arizona, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, plus additional licensed states. Florida’s online market is limited. Some states are retail-only. Wisconsin’s online market was still launching after an April 2026 law. We do not treat an unverified state as live.

Practical rule

If the licensed app will not geolocate you, you are not allowed to wager there — even if you have an account. Using a VPN to appear in a legal state is a violation of operator terms and, in many cases, state rules.

Laws change. This page is a guide, not a government registry. Check the operator and your state’s regulator.
